Direct Mail Copywriting

Imagine there’s a ring on your doorbell. You’re watching your favourite TV programme and your dinner’s about to burn. You get bad-temperedly out of your armchair and answer the door. There’s a man with a briefcase, and you’ve never seen him before.

What does he say?

“Hello Sir, I’m in the area talking to homeowners about why our double-glazing is better than anyone else’s. Have you got ten minutes you can spare me?”

You’d get rid of him, wouldn’t you? Why should you listen to what he has to say? You’re just one of dozens of people he’s pestered to get rid of his stupid windows.

Now imagine this . . .

This time when you answer the door, you see the same man, but he has something a bit more important to tell you.

“Hello, it’s Mr Smith isn’t it?”

It is. You’re interested to know how he knows.

“I got your name from a friend of yours – Tom White. He told me you were having some trouble with your windows letting the draught in.”

It’s true, you are.

“Anyway, I was in the area and I realised I’d got some new windows that are just the size you need. Maybe you’d like to see them?”

Now what would your response be? The man’s being helpful. He knows a friend of yours. He’s thinking about you, and the problem you need to solve. He seems to have an idea that could save you a lot of hassle.

Admit it – you’re interested.

But can you do the same in a direct mail letter?

Yes. When you ask us to help you sell using direct mail, we’re like the second man with the briefcase. Our letters aren’t salesy, they’re personal, simple and full of benefits for your readers. They’re also a good read and they sell.

So, if you’d like direct mail that offers your readers the help they need, rather than puts them off what your business has to offer, simply fill in the reply slip below. We’ll be in touch to help get your sales campaigns achieving better results…
